Cruise Highlights

What you’ll see on your Kimberley cruise

Over the seven full days we cruise up the Kimberley coast from Cygnet Bay, north of Broome along the Dampier Peninsula, you’ll have plenty of time to witness some of the sights the north west of WA is world renowned for.

You’ll see up-close a staggering array of wildlife on the daily excursions, ranging from estuarine crocodiles (the “salty”), sea turtles, dolphins and other marine life to the huge variety of colourful and unique birdlife.

We’ll show you the spectacle of Montgomery Reef, where twice a day as the tide ebbs, the reef is exposed and water flows off in mini-waterfalls.

Along the way you’ll have the opportunity to swim in clear freshwater waterholes (safe from the toothy inhabitants) as well as discovering rock art left behind by ancient custodians.

There’ll be time also for fishing the pristine Kimberley waters, both aboard the MV Melantre, as well as from select shore-based locations. A hook-up is almost guaranteed!

A visit to this area wouldn’t be complete without experiencing “one of the greatest natural wonders of the world”, as described by Sir David Attenborough … the famous Horizontal Falls.

Other Experiences

  • Silica Beach
  • Horizontal Falls
  • Montgomery Reef
  • Raft Point
  • Sale River
  • Whirlpool Passage
  • Leadline Creek

Kimberley Cruise Itinerary

The following cruise itinerary is representative of what you can expect on our Kimberley cruise. We may however modify the itinerary to accommodate guest requests (where possible and reasonable), especially on a full vessel charter where flexibility is one of the benefits of an exclusive charter and itineraries can be tailored for private groups.

Our schedule is based on and around a full moon spring tide and is subject to change depending on weather and tides.

We do however endeavour to include the major Kimberley icons.

Day 1

Your Kimberley adventure starts with a pickup from your accommodation and a drive to Cygnet Bay, on the Dampier Peninsula. Enjoy a guided tour of the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm before the skipper and crew welcome you aboard MV Melantre!

Your cruise departs Cygnet Bay for a relaxed afternoon across King Sound.

Day 2 to Day 6

Explore the region on board MV Melantre. Itineraries are flexible and subject to change based on weather and tides. Please visit the Kimberley Cruise Destinations and Highlights page to see some of the locations that can be included on the cruise.

Day 7

Your cruise arrives back into Cygnet Bay. It’s then a fond farewell from the skipper and crew as we transfer you and your travelling companions back to Broome, to your accommodation.

Important Information

Important Information

Please read the following important information before booking your 7 day Kimberley Cruise.

Accommodation in Broome

We recommend you book accommodation in Broome for at least 1 night either side of your cruise dates. We’ll pick you up from your accommodation provider on the day of your cruise and drop you back after the cruise.

Accommodation Onboard MV Melantre

Your cruise price includes a berth in one of our twin-share cabins so you will be sharing with another guest (spouse/partner/relative/friend) should the cruise be fully booked.

If we are not fully booked, you may have the option to request a cabin without another guest, however this is not necessarily guaranteed. We’ll do our best to accommodate you though … just ask at the time of booking.

Travel Insurance

Comprehensive Travel Insurance is strongly recommended for all travellers as protection against any unforeseen events that may necessitate the cancellation or interruption of your holiday and should be purchased at the same time as you purchase your cruise. It should also include emergency evacuation and repatriation cover.

We recommend Travel Insurance by SureSave.

SureSave, is an Australian company who specialise in travel insurance designed for travellers. SureSave provides world assistance through a customer support team, a claims team and an in-house 24/7 Emergency Assistance division. Underwritten by Lloyds of London, you get peace of mind knowing your security is guaranteed. When you need help, you’ll get it in a familiar accent from someone who understands and is there to help.

Please note: SureSave Travel Insurance policies may only be purchased by Australian residents. For international travellers, please discuss your policy requirements with your local insurance provider.

Your Health & Safety

Your comfort, safety and wellbeing are of the utmost importance to us. Travelling the Kimberley coast is generally quite safe during the times we run the cruises, however weather conditions can change without warning. You will be travelling aboard a ship so should you be highly susceptible to seasickness, our cruise may not be the best option for you.

We also make trips to shore aboard our small tender to participate in short hikes to experience waterholes and ancient indigenous art. As such we recommend you have a moderate level of fitness and that you are in good health, so that you and other guests can enjoy the full Kimberley experience.

The Kimberley is in a very remote part of Australia, far from medical aid, and as such the time it takes to get emergency services to our location can be quite long. We have the latest in safety gear aboard the vessel, our Captain and Crew are trained in emergency procedures and we carry first aid equipment and supplies, should the need arise.
